INTERVIEW WITH S(20)

What is your understanding of gender?

I do believe that gender and sex are two different things. Sex is what you were born as, man or woman. Gender, for me is part of your personal identity. Although I think it is problematic that people associate different aspects of their character with their gender. People who identify as genderfluid confuse me for example, because they assign very specific character traits to a certain gender, being girly - to feeling like a woman – in a sense to reducing a woman to her girly aspects and I do not think this is the right way to go.

What is your understanding of gender inequality?

Gender equality is a real and problematic thing, especially in positions of work, where normally women are less prominent in positions of power.

What is your personal opinion about gender non-binary?

I believe some people feel neither a man nor a woman and I believe that is fully okay.

What is your understanding of intersectionality?

I absolutely do believe that your gender, sexuality, race or social background play a role in your place in society.

Can you name any significant inequalities in your country?

A lot less women in positions of power; Single Mothers, who are financially struggling

What are the 3 most important factors for a gender inclusive society?

Respect, Acceptance, Openness
